The Bulgarian Evangelical Alliance serves as the historical successor of the Alliance of Evangelical Churches, which was founded and registered in 1909, but whose work was put to an end by measures of repression in 1948 on behalf of the ruling regime.
The Bulgarian Evangelical Alliance is a partnership between the five founding denominations and four denominations that were accepted as regular members in May 2005, as well as another 12 affiliate members (para-church organizations, working in various fields of Christian living).
The Bulgarian Evangelical Alliance is a non-profit organization, which has religious, educational and administrative functions. BEA works for the spreading of Christian values and assists in regulating relations between the various Evangelical churches on the one hand, and between Evangelicals and the state on the other.
The Bulgarian Evangelical Alliance is a member of the European Evangelical Alliance and the World Evangelical Alliance.

God is working for the unity of the Church. In the last 10 years most of the denominations have learned to work together for bringing the Gospel to our nation. 2007 and 2008 is the Year of the Bible in Bulgaria and all the denominations together with the Bulgarian Bible Society and the Bulgarian Bible League and many Christian organizations will join efforts for bringing the Bible to the nation. God is working among the marginalized groups. The prison ministry is growing, there is a ministry for refugees, there are many social activities and evangelistic outreaches among gypsies. God is preparing new leaders for the church. A large program for leadership development has been started. The women's department of BEA has a special Training program for women leaders. EQUIP, Willow Creek and Crown Ministries have already or are starting leadership programs in the country.
The Bulgarian National Alliance represents the evangelical churches and Christian organizations in the country. It is their voice and common position in the political, social and religious fields. BEA provides information and co-ordinates initiatives, conferences, trainings on a national level, which is more than separate denomination is able to do. BEA contributes to the unity of the Evangelical churches and communicates with state institutions. BEA has various ministries and departments - 'Women's Department, Youth Department, Church Planting Committee, Prison Ministry, Refugees' Ministry, Sports Department, Media Department, Theological Education (BETI). There are several ministries in partnership with other organizations like - disabled, students' ministry, children's ministry, liquidating illiteracy, chaplain's ministry, business training, publishing Christian literature and Bibles, missions.
Our primary challenge is to overcome differences and work together in unity.
The main threats are: growing materialism, too much business, resisting the military Islam, the attacks of the Eastern Orthodox Church, the liberalism coming through the liberal churches in Western Europe.
The biggest opportunities are: our freedom, people's openness, training opportunities.
Please pray for:
- The unity of the Church;
- The Church to stand on the solid Bible ground;
- The Church to be sensitive to people's needs and meet them in most relevant way;
- The young people and young leaders and the challenges they face;
- The situation in our country which has recently joined the EU;
- The Lord to provide for our financial needs.
