National Alliance Profile:
The Hungarian Alliance was officially established in 1936 with the strong support of the historical churches. After Communism, it struggled to find its role. In the last 10 years, the Hungarian EA has become a recognized and appreciated movement that has sought to bring together the historical denominations and the new denominations through practical ministry initiatives. The Hungarian EA is very relationally based and continues to be a totally caried out by volunteers. The Alliance continues to grow in its role to support and encourage new denominations to take their role in establishing God’s kingdom through ministry networks and regional networks.
There is a strong sense that God is bringing about renewal in the historical protestant and Catholic churches. There is increase of evangelistic activities in these churches as well as a increase of acceptance and recognition for the key role that newer denominations are having in furthering God’s Kingdom. The Church is still facing the challenge of upholding Biblical doctrine which our Apologetics network and others are seeking to address. God is working to bring together people in key ministry areas such as Roma ministry, Women’s ministry, Stewardship ministry, Singles ministry, Family ministry, Sports ministry, Children’s ministry, Foreign missions and Prayer ministry, for example, which is increasing the impact that the Gospel is having on key areas of the society.
The Hungarian EA is God’s tool for communicating, demonstrating and building biblical unity in Hungary. This is happening through more than 15 ministry based networks that incorporate a wide variety and large number of evangelicals. These networks are impacting hundreds of others through gatherings, conferences and trainings. This is also happening through our bigger gathering such as BalatonNET and Missions Expo. The Hungarian EA is supported by more than 30 Evangelical Mission Agencies and more than 10 denominations. The opportunities for the Hungarian EA to further God’s work in our country far out weigh our capacity to take hold of them. The Hungary EA has become a respected and recognized and trusted movement among the churches and in the nation.
Our primary challenge is continuing to build into evangelicals a Kingdom mentality that would unity us and build capacity for ministry. Evangelicals need to be strengthened and equipped to be committed to building God’s kingdom and not just be observers or critics. We need to combat materialism and encourage good stewardship that would provide the needed resources for the Hungarian Alliance’s ministries and those of its supporting missions and denominations. We are also challenged to uphold and maintain a evangelical theology.
We have the opportunity to pull together the body of Christ and to prepare and equip each member for ministry. We have the great opportunity to address social issues facing children, elderly, family and Roma giving hope, peace and love that will lift Christ up among Hungarians. We have begun programs such as BalatonNET and Marriage Week as models.
• Pray that we would serve the Lord with clean hands and a pure heart
• Pray that God would raise up the volunteers and funding needed to take advantage of our unique opportunities to influence the Church and society.
• Pray for revival in the historical churches and among the nominal Christians
