Evangelical Alliance of Kenya(EAK), the umbrella body for Evangelical churches and organisations in Kenya, has an estimated membership of approximately 10 million people, approximately one third of the Kenyan population. It has over 38,000 congregations and about 100 denominations and para-church organisations nationwide. The mission of EAK is to empower the evangelicals to bring God's transforming grace to the people through a united prophetic voice and holistic ministries.
EAK over the next three and a half years will continue to work in three strategic areas of focus. These are:
i) Membership mobilization and capacity building
ii) Support to membership on Mission and Evangelism
iii) Support to membership on Advocacy
Earlier on in the year Kenya received several prophesies. One however comes to mind, delivered through His prophet Pastor Theresa from South Africa. She said to the church in Kenya that God was reviving Kenya, economically, health, families, spiritual revival and that Kenya will become a beacon in Africa for Christ.
In line with the above prophesy we can see God at work healing and restoring our economy now standing at 6.1% ,up from -1% in 2002.
Similarly, there has been a spiritual revival even at a national level. To date, in mitigation of violence during the upcoming general elections, the country has held two national days of prayer and a general repentance by the church leadership on behalf of the nation.
God is turning the hearts of the people of Kenya to himself through a demonstration of His love and forgiveness. The church leaders have come together for a genuine repentance and we as a country believe that God has spared us in His great Love and Mercy!
The National Alliance continues to help unite the evangelicals towards evangelization and advocacy. The voice of the evangelicals is being heard through specifically designed programs. EAK has been empowering her members to make informed choices at the next general elections and thereafter. Also she has collaborated with other organizations for the advancement of the Micah Challenge Campaign in Kenya. The Alliance has worked with other religious organizations to condemn vices seen in the society such as tribal clashes. EAK has also assisted victims of disasters.
The Alliance has seen several challenges especially in the area of being able to respond appropriately to the diverse needs of her constituents. The organization is working towards strengthening the secretariat for enhanced service delivery. EAK has also seen a polarization of the church especially after the first ever constitutional referendum, along tribal and ethnic lines. In this regard, a spiritual approach to healing reconciliation has been sought.
At this time in the history of the country, some church leaders have opted to pursue elective office therefore members are confused and disillusioned, especially where they do not ascribe to the same party politics and policies as the leader (bishop).
The Alliance is poised to make a lasting impact on the landscape of the country. This s more so as an impact is made in regards to the civic education carried out, the raised profile in civic society, private & public sectors and church circles. Through this raised profile, the Alliance will be able to make an impact for evangelism and the integral mission.
EAK would request your prayers:
1. Pray for unity among the evangelicals - there is a need for healing and reconciliation among evangelical church leaders.
2. Pray for increased capacity for the secretariat to deliver on its mandate - human and financial resources are urgently needed
3. Pray for a peaceful election in the country
