In a small country with about 480.000 inhabitants, more than 40% are foreigners. The Luxembourgian are traditional roman-catholic (about 95%). There are about 20 evangelical churches in the whole country; most of these churches are Portuguese and English churches. 6 churches are members of the Alliance: one Luxembourgish church, one English speaking church, one Nigerian church, one Portuguese church and two French speaking African churches. In the whole country there are only 4 churches which are attended by a majority of Luxembourgish people. The impact of the roman-catholic church is very strong. Since we started our Alliance in 1999 we are trying to lead churches together in unity in accordance with John 17. We see many churches struggling for new members, but we are convinced that growth goes only through unity, because evangelicals are always seen as sectarians. Therefore our biggest challenge is the unity of the evangelical churches in Luxembourg.
We need prayer support for this important unity and to find an contact person at the ministry of cults.
As our churches are normally small to very small there are few co-workers. We try to bring the disciples together to unite their efforts and by that get a much bigger impact. This enables us to organize greater common meetings, to help one another in the logistic and financial view to organize special events and to support and encourage one another in our daily efforts. Our goal in the near future is to gather the most possible evangelical churches and associations, to become an audible voice in public and in our exchange with the government. This last point could really be a prayer request; the government only accepts some main churches as interlocutors. The evangelical churches don't get any consideration beside the almighty roman-catholic church.
